Many times we drove over Berthoud Pass. When we got to the top we could tell if it was going to be great skiing, if there was snow on the mountain. The expansive views offered a glimpse of the terrain and conditions, helping us gauge our plans for the day. If the peaks were dressed in a fresh layer of white, it sparked excitement for the opportunities that lay ahead. The journey over the pass was not just a means to an end; it was a ritual that heightened our anticipation for the winter adventures to come.
